STRAWBERRIES FOR SUSANNAH -- Work-in-Progress

It is the spring of 1829, and sixteen year old Susannah Occuish much to be grateful for. Her
indentured service at Morehouse Manor is almost over. Grandmama's garden is flowing with
berries and tender sprouts of corn. And, she's befriended Nathaniel, a boy with smiles almost as
sweet as his kisses.

But, trouble is brewing between the miners and the Cherokees when gold is discovered in
upstate Georgia. Though Susannah's family live miles from their tribal roots, on the outskirts of
the whaling community of Tybee Island, their Cherokee skin makes them a target as hostilities
mount. Susannah dodges cruel jokes and taunts from the Morehouse girls, doing her best to
bide her time until her sentence is up. Unchecked, the situation escalates until an unexpected
assault leaves Susannah shaken and the unwitting target of revenge.
